This OPP will create a fish handling facility in order to produce products for sale. This workshop will be built in the port facilities on a 1,132-square-metre plot granted by Ports of Catalonia to the Fishermen’s Guild. Part of the production will be destined for sale to local schools and health centres.
During 2021, the associated producers took part in a project promoted by the Baix Empordà Regional Council to provide fresh fish from the coast to schools to the area. As a result of this project and adding the demand made by the Palamós Hospital, the Fishermen’s Guild decided to create a fish handling facility to produce products for sale.
Given that the marketing of the production will be managed by the OPP, it is essential to equip this organisation with the necessary machinery to promote the production to these new customers, with an agreement being signed with the Guild to provide the facilities. Once the construction of the facility has been completed, staff will be hired to handle the product. It will also be equipped with the necessary machinery for the preparation of the products:
-Freezing tunnel
-Packaging machine
-Working tables
-Sawmill
-Cleaning and disinfection equipment, etc.
It should be added that the planned actions, especially the provision of the handling facility, are considered innovative by the OPP because the fishing sector will be involved in the production of its own products. Moreover, all the proposals contemplated in this measure are of collective interest and benefit to all local producers.
