Wednesday 15th November marked the beginning of the closed season for purse seine fishing on the Costa Brava. This closed period will end on 15 January 2024.
The fishing fleet of the Fisherman Guild’s of Palamós is moored in port until the closure period ends.
These closed fishing periods apply to the entire Catalan coastline and serve to preserve the seabed and ensure the good evolution of all the species that inhabit it.
The purse seine fishing ban is part of the Integrated Plan for the conservation of the Costa Brava’s fishing resources, which provides for the creation of restricted fishing zones in order to maintain them as marine reserves and protected areas, thus promoting the regeneration of biodiversity.
