On 18 June, Miquel Mir, president of the Palamós OPP, and Cristina Mañas, manager of the Palamós Fishermen’s Guild, took part in an interview on Radio Capital to explain the collaboration between the OPP and the Áurea Foundation.
During the interview, Miquel Mir stressed that this collaboration is part of the “Solidarity Food” project, a joint initiative that seeks to reduce food waste by distributing the fish that arrives at the fish market withdrawal price, in addition to 100 social entities. Cristina Mañas emphasized how this project not only helps people in vulnerable situations, but also guarantees fair remuneration for fishermen.
During the interview, other sustainability initiatives were discussed, such as the role of the fish workshop, which promotes the consumption of little-known species, contributing to the diversification of consumption and preservation of marine resources. Environmental awareness projects aimed at schools and local communities were also mentioned, as well as the digitalisation of fishing information to improve efficiency and transparency in the management of resources.
This interview reflects the OPP’s commitment to sustainability, innovation and social responsibility, working towards a better future for the fishing community and the environment.
