On Thursday 12th December, the Palamós Fishermen’s Guild hosted a training session to learn the protocol for action in accidental catches of protected species, a reality that is increasingly present in the fishing sector.
The session, which was held in the Assembly Hall of the Guild, was well attended by fishermen and professionals from the sector, who were able to learn about and put into practice the steps to follow in the event of this type of capture.
During the training, the following topics were dealt with:
- The communication of accidental catches: Use of the warning system to inform quickly and effectively.
- The necessary actions to take: Protocols to follow in each situation.
- The resources available and the economic compensation system: Measures to facilitate the work of fishermen and the benefits offered to professionals committed to sustainability.
These types of initiatives highlight the importance of continuous training to adapt to the challenges of the sector and guarantee the preservation of protected species, while at the same time maintaining fishing activity in a responsible manner.
From the Palamós OPP we would like to thank all the participants for their attendance and involvement in this training. Your collaboration is key to continue advancing towards a more sustainable and respectful fishing with the marine environment.
